I Love Ibrahim Moiz

March 8, 2006

kr’s note: I met Ibrahim “Abe” Moiz way back… umm.. actually, I don’t even remember anymore. I think it was 2001 or something. Who cares. He’s currently in law school in DC, but he and I (and a bunch of other guys from all over the country) stay in touch with the famous “isnaboyz” listserv. Alhamdulillah, we’ve been great friends for quite a while now… but after I received this email from him today, I want to bump him up to #1 on kr’s friends’ list. Insert joke about kr not having friends here (idiots). Anyway, here’s the email for anyone interested to peruse. I’ve only changed the email addresses to protect these guys from spambots and such.

Anyone wanna go to Outback….?

kr’s note #2: ok, i promise, Inshallah, as God gives me strength, tomorrow evening, due to all the requests for me to update, I will post part 7 of the hajj memoirs.

kr’s note #3: don’t look now, but the 75,000 hits landmark has been passed… 100,000 not far off, Inshallah =)

kr’s note #4 (wow, lots of kr’s notes on this post): And the winner for “Best Performance by a kr156 Site Visitor in Suggesting kr’s New Color Scheme” goes to… (drumroll)… kabri481. For her contribution to making the world a better place, the KR Foundation for Human Progress may possibly donate an undetermined of some currency to an undisclosed charity perhaps in the future..

Good Afternoon,

The only Halal protein in our restaurant is the Lamb that we import, which is produced in New Zealand.  All lamb served in the domestic Outback locations is from the country of New Zealand.

The Halal accreditation certificates are from The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand.

Request your lamb to be cooked in a separate sauté pan.  It takes 20 minutes to cook the lamb plus a little longer in the separate sauté pan, so you might want to tell your server to call it back as soon as possible.

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you,
Michelle

To Whom It May Concern,

I heard that the lamb served at your restaurants is halal. I just wanted
to confirm that this was true. Is this in all countries, or just the
predominantly Muslim ones? Additionally, which company supplies your halal
lamb? Are there any other meats that you serve that are halal? Who
supplies those? Also, if I were to ask that the chefs ensure that any
halal dishes that I order are cooked separately from non-halal dishes,
such that the halal dishes dont absorb the oils of the non-halal dishes,
will they honor my request?

Thank you for your time.

update, Thursday 1:10 am: Saud did some investigating as well:

Salaam Stud,
I emailed the NZ Meat Board to confirm. They replied in less than 2  hours. Apparently, ALL the meat they produce is halaal. So even if you don’t really want to purchase halal, you’re gonna get halaal. Awesome.
You can buy me dinner when I get back in November, InshaAllah.
ma’assalaam,
Saud

Siddiqui, this is PPCS USA principle suppliers of New Zealand lamb to Outback Restaurants. Our parent company is PPCS Ltd the largest meat processor / marketer in New Zealand. We received your message from the New Zealand Meat Board. We can confirm all our lamb is halal slaughtered due to the very large business we have in the Middle East. Authentic halal slaughter agencies monitor slaughter at our plants and certificates issued accordingly. Halal agencies can either supply an individual halal certificate for each shipment or an over-arching certificate listing accredited slaughter plants. We are happy to provide copy such certificates to whomever may require or alternatively you / friend can contact Halal agencies in New Zealand for personal re-assurance.

Hi,

Recently a friend of mine contacted Outback Steakhouse of North America concerning the type of lamb they use at their resturants. He recieved a reply stating that all the North America locations purchased Halal lamb from New Zealand. I was wondering if their statement could be confirmed in any way.

Thank you,

S. Siddiqui

Currently Listening: Hani Rifai – Juz 29… Subhanallah, this guy gets more and more amazing everytime I listen to him.

Thanks for sharing that e-mail. Please bring the old colors back. Especially after MuslimPearl’s comment. Or do something with black/blues/grays.

  8. They only have like one lamb dish though… oh well, something is better than nothing.
I like the new colors. The red goes with the “good side” of the Prince profile picture that you have… it seemed that the blue reflected the “dark side” of the Prince, as if to highlight your bogus claim that you’re a bad guy. Since you’ve recently come back from Hajj (mA), I like how it reflects this reborn side…
Or maybe it just looks badass… either way, I like it.

  9. new color scheme plz…i liked ur old one better

  10. very cool, that is some good investigating. are there any other lamb dishes other than the “lamb with cabernet sauce”?

  11. Congratulations on 75,000 visitors… and the new color scheme is… different… I think I’ll maybe like it in a few days. I was just so used to the blue for a year now

  12. waiting on the memoirs…..

  13. Outback? mmm….Pick you up at seven this Friday?Abe Moiz is really a superhero. His true civilian identity remains a mystery.the color scheme is too feminine…I dunno about this “dried blood” hullabaloo.

  14. kr you gotta check out my xanga ma man….There is a picture u have to see!

  15. Assalamualaikum…..
outback, huh? why not just got to Tahoor to the a ? or to Ghareeb to the Nawaz…or maybe even Sabri nehari?

  24. No WAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! Dude, I’m goin to Outback… that leaves only one more question:
    WHO’S COMIN’ WITH ME?????

  25. nice color scheme….
    Outback…Brockback….not a good combination 🙂

  26. ^hahah ya shaykh, you mean brokeback….crap, by correcting that spelling i wonder if i just incriminated myself?

  27. much better lol

  28. Looking forward to your next Hajj post bro.

  29. Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,
The lamb chops, which seem to be the only lamb meal on the menu (you can double check that), is served with cabarnet sauce — a red wine sauce served with vegetables.  Thus, even if the lamb itself is halal, consumers should take precautions to tell the waiters/waitresses to make sure their lamb chops are prepared differently than the normal lamb chops.  Just a thought.
