March Madness

As you can see from my profile on the left side of the page, I am a certified March Madness Bracketologist. What that means is that this is the time of the year where I can finally use my skills in picking the winners to laugh in the face of my opponents who did not make such correct picks. Usually, I only send the invite out to people on my email list, but since my website has become something of a publicly traded commodity (or nuisance, depending on how you like to look at it), I’m opening the invite to everyone on the site. The female gender is more than welcome to participate… in fact, I remember that a few years ago, I was in a bracket pool that had like 20 guys and 1 girl… and she ended up winning. That was quite embarassing and humbling to say the least.

Anyway, here’s some of the basic info. All you need is a Yahoo ID to sign up. I haven’t decided the scoring system yet, but I think I’ll just keep it as the standard scoring system (eg., 1 point for correct 1st round pick, 2 points for correct 2nd round pick)… unless we get a push for a different scoring style, such as rewarding those who pick upsets, etc. We have until Wednesday evening to figure it out.

And pleeease, let’s try to get some originality here. If all you do is pick higher seeds, it’s no fun. Be willing to pick a few upsets. And for heaven’s sake, stop picking Illinois to win… they’ll make the Final Four, and as much as I’m rooting for them, in all honesty, they don’t have the big men to play against the likes of North Carolina and such. But then again, North Carolina is in the toughest bracket, so maybe they wont even come to the Final Four… giving them the advantage. But then there’s the likes of Wake to contend with… wow, that leaves us in quite a pickle doesnt it.

Rest assured. I have it all figured out. Let’s have some fun.

The official invite is pasted below:

Hello peasants,

You have been invited to join kr_156’s Private Group in Yahoo! Sports Yahoo! Sports Tournament Pick’em.

In order to join the group, just go to the game front page and click on the “Sign Up” button to create a team. After completing registration, or if you already have a team, click the “Create or Join Group” button and follow the path to join an existing private group. Then, when prompted, enter the following information…

Group ID#: 68657
Password: kr156

The commissioner of this group has sent the following note:
It’s the greatest time of the year… in terms of sports that is. Once again it’s time for the NCAA tournament… and that means brackets… and that means you’re all going to get destroyed by the master bracketologist himself.

Anyone who wishes to be embarassed, feel free to join my bracket.

Since we’re all Moslems, there’s no money involved… only thing the winner gets is bragging rights. And maybe I’ll do a xanga post on how great you are. Maybe.

We will send you a confirmation with further details once you have completed the registration process.

Yeah, we’re not playing on cbssportsline this year since you have to sign up and they send you email ads forever… but I stole their picture anyway.

Finally, its time for our weekly dose of Boondocks:

Oh, and I almost forgot… another update on the Isaac, Farooq, and the Capri Sun tower. Since the perpetrators of knocking down the towers weren’t found, I guess they decided not to rebuild them… and instead, using the mystical powers of duct tape and putting all their free time to use (one wonders whether people actually study at UIUC)… well, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves:
